Intermediate Course

  • Improve Your Skills
  • Pass the Test
  • Earn Your Endorsement

The Intermediate Course is an approved endorsement course for riders 21 and older.

Students must be able to already operate a motorcycle and to smoothly get underway, turn, shift and stop. This one-day course includes on-bike training and classroom instruction.

The course builds basic street-riding skills and strategies. The on-bike training is done in-person, on-site. Training motorcycles 125-250cc and helmets are provided. Students can complete the classroom portion online at home, or in-person, on site.

The on-bike training provides 4 hours of practice in low-speed balance and control, emergency braking, countersteering, cornering and swerving.

The classroom prepares students for the on-bike training and for street riding. Students who choose online classroom complete Chapters 1 and 2 (riding gear and motorcycle controls) before the on-bike training session. Students who choose in-person classroom attend 4 hours of classroom on-site before the on-bike training session. (Note that face masks may be required in the classroom.)

Please note: Riding gear is required for all riding activities. Also, see Completion & Eligibility Requirements.

Getting your endorsement is done in three steps:

01 Take the Course

02 Pass the Test

03 Go to the DMV

Select a location and register.

How to register

There is no wait list. Use the search tool above to select the nearest location to you. Refine your search by adjusting the travel distance radius and course types to fit your needs. Click the “register” link under the location and course you’d like to take and you’ll be taken through the registration form.

After you register, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Read this information carefully. It will have the course schedule and start times, what to bring, map to the site, etc. If you do not receive a confirmation, check your junk mail folder.

If you are unable to find a course that fits your schedule, widen your search to sites further away, or consider a Basic Course. You can follow us on Twitter to be notified of open seats. And check back often: When classes fill, additional classes may be scheduled to meet student demand.

The Oregon Department of Transportation may provide a $25 refund to Oregon residents participating in the DHS-SNAP program who register for a Team Oregon Basic or Intermediate Course. SNAP participants apply for the refund when they register, and are required to show their SNAP card to the instructor.

What should you bring?

You must wear boots, gloves, long pants, long sleeves, eye protection and a DOT helmet to participate in the riding sessions. Click below for the full list of what to bring.

Completion & Eligibility Requirements

You must complete all on-bike training sessions and classroom sessions. You must pass the on-bike skill test. Online classroom students must pass the online quizzes.

Most participants complete the course successfully. However, there is no guarantee of course completion. Students who fail to demonstrate a minimum level of safety will be dismissed without refund.

Before going to DMV, make sure you understand the Oregon DMV licensing process.
