Intermediate Rider Training

$149

IRT is an eight-hour course for riders familiar with motorcycle controls. This one-day course builds fundamental street-riding skills and strategies. Training motorcycles and helmets are provided or students may use their own. For riders with limited riding experience or those who haven’t ridden in some time, IRT is the recommended course.

Classroom discussion includes risk management, protective gear, riding strategy, roadway management, impairments and special riding situations. Range (on-cycle) instruction includes low-speed balance and control, emergency braking, counter steering, cornering and swerving.

Get your motorcycle license! IRT meets Oregon’s mandatory training requirements for riders age 21-40. Riders 41 or older are also welcome to attend. Driver and Motor Vehicles (DMV) waives the state on-cycle skill test for any rider who successfully completes the course.

Completion Requirements

Completion cards are awarded to graduates of IRT. To receive a completion card, you must attend all classroom and on-cycle riding sessions and pass an on-cycle skills test. DMV waives the on-cycle skills test for graduates who possess a valid completion card. Riders who successfully complete IRT are eligible for insurance discounts under Oregon law. For additional information, see Eligibility Requirements.

Most participants complete the course successfully. However, there is no guarantee of course completion or graduation. Students who fail to demonstrate a minimum level of safety will be dismissed without refund.

Refund Policy

Remember: You are paying for a reserved seat in a course. Registrations are limited. If you need to reschedule your course or cancel, you must do so at least three days before the course begins to be eligible for a refund. Students who arrive late or leave early lose their reservation and payment.
