Interns and apprentices for both range and classroom are required to complete an evaluation form after each teaching assignment. Your feedback helps us evaluate and refine our mentor program. Please complete the form within three business days of each teaching assignment.
Instructors are required to maintain basic first-aid certification. Team Oregon does not require CPR and AED certification. After initial instructor and first aid certification, continued certification will be provided by Team Oregon with an approved online source. This provided benefit will make it easier for instructors to maintain their certification while also maintaining our standard of care for students.
Certification from other training providers or employers may be accepted with approval from the Team Oregon Training Department. The providers listed below offer online training are approved by Team Oregon. Explore these websites for hands-on training in your area if you preferred.
If you have questions or to submit your first aid certification, email Megan Ryusaki. You may send proof of certification to Megan by e-mail.
Instructor Prep runs from Friday afternoon to about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. On Friday you will ride training bikes, learning to demonstrate the proper path and technique of basic course exercises. Most of these exercises are included in the end-of-course skills evaluation (riding test). After you practice, you will complete the same skills evaluation we expect our students to ride.
Saturday morning you will learn range preparation of cones, bikes, and equipment. You will have an orientation of using the range cards and navigate the flow of exercises. After lunch you will learn range management, including the awareness of the other instructor and all students in your area of responsibility. The day will finish with riding demonstration practice.
Sunday you will become more familiar with the exercise components in the range cards, and more comfortable when you see them in action. After lunch you will learn coaching techniques and the basics of conducting a skills evaluation.
For reference, here is the sequence of steps required for instructor certification. Most will be completed within the Google Classroom.
